The cost of the iPhone 12 has increased by 21 percent compared to the iPhone 11

In mid-October, Apple unveiled the iPhone 12, which starts at $829. This is significantly more than the $700 that the iPhone 11 cost a year earlier. Representatives of the analytical agency Counterpoint Research have decided to figure out what caused such a big difference.

Analysts concluded that the cost of the iPhone 12 with 128GB of storage and 5G mmWave is $430. "Assemble" last year's iPhone 11 with the same characteristics cost $340. In turn, the price tag of the 5G version of the iPhone 12 is 18 percent higher than that of its predecessor.

The cost of the device itself is about 16 percent made up of proprietary components, including UWB and A14 Bionic chips. The company's move to OLED screens added nearly $25 to the price of the device. To increase the competitiveness of the devices, the company's supply chain has to literally "beat out" discounts from component suppliers.
