Xiaomi considers accusations of censoring content on its devices unjustified

Cybersecurity Department of the Lithuanian government accused the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi of censoring information by revealing the facts of selective blocking of certain word combinations of search queries in MIUI Global 12.0.10.

Representatives of Xiaomi refused to admit their guilt and published an official response, in which they stated their respect for users and the absence of censorship on their devices. In particular, the manufacturer noted that the ability to use the blocking of certain words and phrases is regulated by the local law of the country where the mobile device is located, and is not available throughout Europe.

According to the manufacturer, restrictions on user actions have never been applied, and are unlikely to be applied in the future in clear compliance with GDPR rules.
