Researchers proved that 4 GB of RAM is not enough for Android smartphones

With each year, new applications and games are becoming more and more demanding to the "iron" of smartphones. The popular Android Authority decided to find out how much RAM your gadget needs in order to work properly, and conducted a little experiment.

For the experiment the publication used three devices: Pixel 3 XL (4 GB RAM), OnePlus 9 Pro (8 GB RAM) and Galaxy S21 Ultra (12 GB RAM). Google and Samsung smartphones had the latest Android installed, while OnePlus had Android 11. During the experiment, games were sequentially opened on the gadgets until one of them "flew off".

As expected, the worst result showed Pixel 3 XL, 4 GB of RAM which was enough to run only three games, when you run the fourth game, the first game "dropped out". We could not fully test the OnePlus 9 Pro because of the firmware, which unloads games before the end of free RAM. The S21 Ultra showed the best results, as it was able to load all the games and the researchers had to additionally load the processor with Chrome browser.
